Green startups from all over the world can submit promising sustainable business plans from the 1st of March 2017 for the 11th edition. In order to be able to compete, your product or service must reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The winner will receive €500,000 to further develop their product or service, and to bring it to market. The runner-up will receive €200,000. The winner will chosen by an international jury.

The world of oil and gas production is changing and will continue to do so. In the transition towards a low-CO2 energy supply, the share of conventional fuels such as natural gas will decrease due to the growth of renewable sources. By 2050 it is expected that the Dutch natural gas reserves will largely be exhausted. The Dutch oil and gas industry is working hard to make this new reality their own. A reality in which natural gas is no longer the natural best choice, but is used only where it contributes to CO2 reduction and where it does not get in the way of the development of renewable energy. We call this ‘Gas by Design’. During this transition, NOGEPA represents the interests of the companies who are licensed to explore for and produce oil and gas in the Netherlands. Thereby, they want to contribute to reaching a sustainable energy supply by 2050.
Energie Beheer Nederland (EBN) is a company that invests in the exploration, extraction and storage of gas and oil on behalf of the State. Since the release of the white paper by Elon Musk about the Hyperloop concept, the interest in this concept has increased tremendously. In short, the Hyperloop is a conceptual high-speed ground transportation system incorporating reduced-pressure tubes in which pressurized vehicles travel. By doing this, the air resistance is so low that a vehicle can travel at almost the speed of sound while being a lot cheaper, more efficient, and more convenient than airplanes. To boost the development of a working prototype, Elon Musk’s company SpaceX organizes the Hyperloop competition. This competition entails travelling with a half-size capsule through a low pressure tube of 1.6 km in length, built by SpaceX in California.
Our team consists of 35 students from all faculties of the TU Delft. With this team and its experience we believe that we can look further, reach farther, work harder, and perform better than the other teams competing in the Hyperloop competition. Everyone in this team is extremely motivated to make the world cleaner, faster and more efficient. Our goal has been set: winning this competition and changing the future of transportation.
Hydrogen has long been the prospective replacement for fossil fuel in the automotive industry, only to see battery cars claim the stage in most recent years. Nonetheless hydrogen has a huge potential in becoming an important player in the energy transition. Once production is scaled up and carried out with the use of renewable energy the true benefits of using hydrogen will flourish on the energy market. Hydrogen has the ability to be stored and transported, as well as to fill up fuel tanks in under 3 minutes at ordinary gas stations. Not to mention that the current achievable driving range is already competitive with ordinary petrol cars. The Eco-Runner Team is a strong believer in the future of hydrogen and has made it into its mission to promote and develop this wonderful energy carrier.
